The overarching goal is to promote local governance at the grassroots level by coordinating efforts and sharing experiences between countries engaged in similar activities. The specific objectives include:
To establish a permanent mechanism through which to achieve goals of the GNLG.
To develop and promote a sound understanding of local democracy, decentralization, and participatory governance at the regional and global levels.
To disseminate information on local governance to a broad range of activists and institutions, especially among World Movement for Democracy participants and their networks.
